On February 5 in Kholmsk, schoolchildren who participate in skiing classes received new equipment. The donation ceremony was held at the Kholmsk Mountain Skiing Center. The Ski to School Project, provides schools in Kholmsk, Nevelsk and Troitskoe settlement in Aniva district with new sets of skis and safety gear for racing and downhill skiing.
Ski to School is a partnership project implemented by the Sakhalin Ministry of Sport, the Tourism and Youth Policy, and the multinational Sakhalin-1 Consortium. The Consortium is comprised of the Russian oil company, Rosneft; Japanese company, SODECO; Indian company, ONGC Videsh; and the Sakhalin-1 Operator, Exxon Neftegas Limited.
Ski to School began in 2016 and has since invested about 3 million rubles into skiing equipment for Sakhalin schoolchildren. Sports experts develop a list of essential equipment and Sakhalin-1 provides funds to purchase the gear. Since 2016, Sakhalin schoolchildren have received cross-country skis, downhill skis, safety gear, snowmobiles, equipment to make snow tracks and other equipment.
