Okha hosted the 6th Northern Stars open municipal folk arts festival sponsored by Exxon Neftegas Limited

Okha, Russia, March 26-27, 2016 – The 6th annual open municipal folk arts festival Northern Stars was held in Okha. The event was organized by the Okha Administration, the Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, and Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL) that has been the general sponsor since the very first festival.

This year the participants competed in the art of dancing. Over 25 dancing groups came to the festival from various districts of Sakhalin, including Okha, Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinsky, Poronaisk, Nogliki, Korsakov, Shakhtersk, etc. In total, over 230 participants demonstrated their mastery in front of nearly half a thousand audience at the Okha District House of Culture.

Apart from the dancing performances the festival also featured an entertainment program, including excursions and various activities. Specialists from Khabarovsk Institute of Culture and Arts, who were the jury members, shared their best practices during the workshop sessions.

The prizes were awarded to the dancing groups from Mgachi settlement, Okha, Nogliki, and Poronaisk, while the Grand Prix of the 6th folk festival was awarded to Viktoria dancing group for its dance performance FlySummer! The dancing group came from the Children’s Arts School located in Korsakov Urban District, Sakhalin Oblast.

All festival participants received the Northern Stars festival souvenirs purchased thanks to ENL support. The absolute winner, Viktoria group from Korsakov District, received a money certificate and a chance to take part in a folk art contest or festival of a higher level outside Sakhalin Oblast.
