The traditional ski event gathered over 270 participants this year, where the youngest one was a 22-month-old toddler and the most experienced skier was 73 years old.

Sportsmen from the Northern Capital of Sakhalin, Nogliki, Smirnikh, Aniva settlements, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and from Khabarovsk and Spassk-Dal’niy participated in the event.

The 2021 competitions took two days. On the 1st day, the event facilitators awarded 28 sets medals, and sportsmen contended for prizes in short and medium distances. The youngest skiers were the first to run a 500-meter race. After the first day, Okha sportsmen won 16 out of 28 top medals.

The second day of competitions determined the strongest sportsmen – traditionally, only the most experienced skiers dare participate in long-distance runs and marathon racing. This year, Ivan Kustov from Nogliki ran 1:57 for a 50km distance showing his back to all his competitors. In addition, the second day offered one of the most spectacular competitions – team sprint races.

During the medal ceremony, the winners and awardees of 38 age groups received well-deserved prizes and souvenirs, and the youngest and the most experience participants were recognized as well.

Sportsmen with disabilities and participants who demonstrated their special willing to win received memorable gifts.

The 45th traditional Cross Country Ski Festival in Okha was held with support from Sakhalin-1 Consortium.
