Professional development of Sakhalin therapists

The goal of the seminar was to train the Sakhalin physicians in the application of advanced care practices for treating patients with brain damage. The seminar was held by specialists from the N. N. Burdenko National Medical Research Center for Neurosurgery – one of the world’s largest medical institutions in the field.

In addition to the theoretical part of the session, the invited physicians (professor Ivan Savin, M.D., Director of Resuscitation and Intensive Care Department, and Andrey Oshorov, M.D., critical care physician working at the department)  held a master class for their Sakhalin colleagues.

This is the second of the three training sessions organized in 2019 by the Sakhalin Oblast Hospital under the grant provided by the Sakhalin-1 Consortium. A seminar covering the essential aspects of prenatal diagnostics was already held in July. In addition to the master class for neurosurgeons, another seminar involving hands-on training is planned for neurologists.

Professional development of Sakhalin’s physicians is one of the areas of charitable activities conducted by the Sakhalin-1 Consortium in the medical field. The training offered to physicians from the main healthcare institutions in the region by Russia’s leading specialists (eliminating the need to leave Sakhalin) and the state-of-the-art equipment provided to the Oblast and district hospitals help improve healthcare quality. At the same time, Sakhalin’s medical practitioners are the ones who determine which equipment is required, and which experts (that can be invited thanks to their partners' assistance) can help them with their professional development.

As of today, the total healthcare support provided by the Sakhalin-1 Consortium over the period of its operations in the island region amounts to approximately 8 million USD.
