Eureka project to support those who love math and science

In 2019, Sakhalin-1 Consortium will provide over 6 million rubles to support Eureka – the Path to Success project.

To achieve this, on March 13 the Sakhalin Oblast Minister of Education Natalia Murashova, ENL Vice-President Margarita Tsoy (Sakhalin-1 Project Operator), and Director of the Regional Education Quality Assessment Center Natalia Peskova signed a trilateral agreement.

Sakhalin-1 has been supporting Eureka every year starting in 2011. Since this time over 32 million rubles were provided to this project to support talented children who show interest in math, physics, chemistry, and biology.

Eureka offers regular training sessions and summer school classes where children are taught by teachers from the leading Russian educational institutions. Also, various educational equipment, including robotic modules and digital laboratories for scientific experiments, is being purchased within the frames of Eureka, and local teachers are given opportunities for professional growth through specialized trainings.

STEM projects are among the priorities for the Sakhalin-1 Consortium’s charitable program. The aim of these projects is to provide Sakhalin children and youth with access to the latest developments in the field of science, and the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained.

Apart from Eureka, it is worth mentioning another large-scale project – creation of the Oil and Gas Institute within the Sakhalin State University (SSU), and its outfitting with the unique education equipment including labs, heavy machinery and drilling simulators and many others. This equipment gave the students a unique opportunity to obtain world-class theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

SSU’s Technical Oil and Gas Institute also offers a unique training course in Petroleum Engineering. This particular course is partnered with the leading Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. Upon successful completion, students receive a diploma of additional higher education from the Gubkin University.

Another avenue of educational support is through the development of robotic engineering. The Company’s support includes purchasing of equipment for the Sakhalin schools, arrangement of robotic engineering contests and master-classes on competitive robotic engineering for Sakhalin teachers, and Sakhalin robotic engineering forums.
