Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL ) is the Sakhalin-1 Project Operator. Being an affiliate of the ExxonMobil Corporation Exxon Neftegas Limited took the best practices gained throughout more than 130 years of industry experience of the corporation and used them as a foundation for Company’s charity program in Sakhalin Oblast and Khabarovsk Krai.
Annually, the Sakhalin-1 Consortium implements a number of contribution programs and in the past 25 years has contributed over 31 million USD in the Sakhalin region.
The Sakhalin-1 Project has been operating for 25 years. Its social contribution is primarily focused in the Project’s areas of operation: Nogliki district, Okha district, Ulchi district, Nikolaevsk district, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, and the city of Khabarovsk in Khabarovsk Krai.
From 1998 up to the present time Exxon Neftegas Limited has contributed over 34 million USD to implement over 1,600 projects.
A robust educational system is a way to success. For any community as a whole it is the cornerstone of a society’s wellbeing for future generations and Sakhalin-1 contributes to our common future by supporting the next generations in their educational journey.
Hospitals, clinics and doctors are essential for our life. In order to enhance medical care in the region, ENL on behalf of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium has been supporting the healthcare institutions of Sakhalin Oblast and the Ulchi district in Khabarovsk Krai for many years. The support gave an opportunity to hospitals to enhance the quality of the medical service through purchasing of state-of-the-art medical equipment and providing advanced training to medical staff that has also been funded by ENL.
The Sakhalin-1 Consortium’s contributions allocated to support development of healthcare institutions from 2002 through 2018 have totaled over 400 million RUB (over 8 million USD).
Support of Indigenous Minority Peoples of the North (IMPN)
Since the very beginning of the Sakhalin-1 Project operations ENL acting on behalf of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium has been actively interacting and collaborating with indigenous minorities of the North of Sakhalin and Ulchi District of Khabarovsk Krai
Among the issues of concern for the indigenous minorities of Sakhalin and Khabarovsk Krai the company gives special attention to the following areas:
- Support of Indigenous Minority Peoples of the North’s traditional reindeer herding
- Preservation and development of Indigenous Minority Peoples of the North’s languages as a foundation of their ethnic identity
- Conservation of Indigenous Minority Peoples of the North’s authentic cultures and ethnic crafts
The contributions allocated from 2002 through 2019 for support of Indigenous Minority Peoples of the North have totaled over 112 million RUB (around 2.8 million USD).
Environmental and Educational Projects
Environmental responsibility is one of the fundamental principles of ENL operations. Within the frames of community contribution program the Company collaborates with local public organizations that are involved in environmental and educational activity for children and youngsters encouraging them to treat the nature with care and teaching the future generations to follow environmentally friendly practices.
For many years Company has been supporting environmental summer camps for children in cooperation with such Sakhalin non-profit organizations as Boomerang and Rodnik environmental clubs. Several generations of children acquired skills of responsible attitude to the planet’s resources. Exxon Neftegas Limited experts share the Company’s experience in implementing the biodiversity preservation program including monitoring programs that focus on grey whales, steller’s sea eagles, and other protected wildlife species with the children who participate in environmental camps.
Among the projects supported on behalf of the international Sakhalin-1 Consortium there is the Name a Whale contest initiated by Boomerang environmental club that helped children to learn a lot about western grey whales through interaction with the scientists who study the animals. As a result of this collaboration dozens of whales got new names. It was of much help for scientists who studied the animals. In future all whales found near the Sakhalin coast will be registered in the special scientific catalogue under the names given by the social project’s participants.
Support of cultural, sports, and other public initiatives
Over the years of partnership with cultural establishments we have managed to implement a number of interesting projects of regional, All-Russian and International level, expand the opportunities of district organizations in their efforts to impart cultural values to children, youngsters and a wide audience of elder generations.
The Sakhalin-1 Consortium supports projects and initiatives focused on promoting children and youngsters sports and healthy lifestyle among the community. Care about health of future generation is the long run task. Football, cross-country skiing, athletics competitions and master classes for junior hockey players are held in partnership with Sakhalin Oblast sports federations.
ENL Volunteer Committee is another significant initiative to promote Company’s engagement in public life, the Committee carries out various volunteering campaigns involving Company’s employees and their families. Exxon Neftegas Limited annually allocates 30 K USD to support these volunteering activities.
Company’s volunteering scope includes the following activities:
- Social (collaborations with orphanages, social rehabilitation centers for children, infant orphanages, homes for physically challenged people etc.)
- Educational (vocational guidance for schoolchildren, English lessons for children, etc.)
- Environmental (regular beach clean-up campaigns, support to the city botanical garden, etc.)
- Sports and healthcare (organize summer sports camps for children from orphanages, blood drive campaign etc.)
Internal corporate events (Christmas bazaar fundraising, New Year’s lottery, auctions, clothes and toy collections for social institutions etc.)
Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL) on behalf of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium conducts annual Social Project Contest as part of its contribution program.
Education support is one of the top priorities of Exxon Neftegas Limited community contribution program. Company implemented a lot of projects on behalf of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium to open new educational opportunities for students like state-of-the-art scientific equipment that provides students with practical opportunities to study the most challenging elements and apply modern technology, moreover, new educational programs enable the students to gain the required knowledge without leaving the Island.
