Exxon Neftegas Limited Receives an Award for Supporting Education at the All-Russian Competition

At the All-Russian competition “Corporate Charity Leaders – 2017”, Exxon Neftegas Limited was awarded the second place in the nomination "The best program that promotes the development of education in Russia" for its educational program "STEM - Exact Sciences for Schoolchildren and Students". Exxon Neftegas Limited also made the Top-15 list in the general ranking of corporate citizenship among Russian companies.

The competition “Corporate Charity Leaders” is a joint project of the Forum of Donors, the international audit and consulting network of PwC companies and the newspaper “Vedomosti”. This year it is being held for the tenth time with more than 50 Russian participating companies.

Support for education is one of the main social priorities for Exxon Neftegas Limited. The uniqueness of the joint project with the Sakhalin State University is that it allowed to create, as they say, from scratch, a new educational institution, fully equip it and put it into operation, and concurrently train teachers and students in accordance with high professional standards and based on the experience of leading technical and engineering universities, both Russian and foreign. In the course of this project, the Company, both independently and on behalf of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium, donated over 16 million USD to implement higher and secondary educational programs in Sakhalin. Since 2012, the STEM program has achieved the following milestones:

  • Creation of the Technical Oil and Gas Institute of the Sakhalin State University and complete outfitting of its educational building with state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories, including one of the most powerful supercomputers in the Far East;

  • Creation of the Sakhalin STEM Center for training professionals across various disciplines of the natural-science cycle: mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, etc.;

  • Support of academic and research student conferences;

  • Support of training programs with the invitation of professors from leading Russian and foreign universities;

  • Free technical English language training for students of the Technical Oil and Gas Institute.

It is important to note that the implementation of the project continues. The 2017 milestone is the agreement with the Sakhalin State University and the Russian State Oil and Gas University named after I.M. Gubkin on cooperation in training engineering professionals for the oil and gas industry of Sakhalin on the basis of the Technical Oil and Gas Institute of the Sakhalin State University. According to the agreement, the leading Russian Oil and Gas University will teach students using a specially developed program. At the end of the course, students will receive the corresponding diploma of the Russian State Oil and Gas University named after I.M. Gubkin.

In addition to charitable projects in the field of higher education, Exxon Neftegas Limited also implements general education projects, in particular:

  • “Eureka - the Path to Success”: support of educational camps for gifted children in the field of exact sciences;

  • Outfitting schools with laboratories and robotic kits for teaching innovative technologies to children;
