During the 2017 Environmental Responsibility Rating of Oil & Gas Companies, Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL), the Sakhalin-1 Project Operator, was rated as the best at the Environmental Impact assessment section, which takes into account companies’ indicators for recycling of associated petroleum gas oil, frequency of oil and petroleum products spills, emission of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. ENL was rated second overall in 2017 for Environmental Responsibility Rating of Oil & Gas Companies in Russia, Exxon Neftegas Limited was rated second. In addition, our company was also awarded a special diploma for the best rating growth dynamics in 2014-2017, i.e. over the entire rating lifetime.
The Rating is maintained since 2014 by CREON and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) with participation of the RF Ministry of Nature (PROON/GEF project), RF Ministry of Energy and National Rating Agency (NRA). Official presentation of 2017 Environmental Responsibility of Oil & Gas Companies Rating results took place in Moscow on November 30.
In 2017 ecologists assessed 22 Russian oil and gas companies. The Rating includes three components: environmental management, environmental impact, and information disclosure reflecting availability of industrial environmental monitoring reports to the public.
The event was held as part of the Year of Ecology in Russia. Its goal is to draw the public attention to the country environmental development, biological diversity conservation and ensuring environmental safety. The Rating is conducted annually since 2014 to obtain objective and comparable information on the level of environmental impact of the national oil and gas industry companies. The Rating is open to the public that contributes to improvement of quality of environmental risks management and mitigation of exposures in the oil and gas industry.
Environmental safety during implementation of the Sakhalin-1 Project is one of the key principles of Exxon Neftegas Limited, the Project Operator. More than $2.5 bln have been spent for environmental activities under the Sakhalin-1 Project. The measures taken include both capital investments and execution of various activities, use of appropriate equipment, conduct of a wide range of surveys (archeological, ornithological, bathymetrical, meteorological, seismic, soil, fishery).
It also includes construction of water body crossings, proper waste recycling, bio-recultivation and preparedness of personnel and equipment for oil spill response, reclamation of pipeline RoW and monitoring survey of the Western Grey Whales and Steller's sea eagle.
The effectiveness of environmental measures is confirmed by data from long-term observations showing that thorough work planning and engineering, use of state-of-the-art technologies and recent scientific developments and high level of industrial discipline, has enabled safe development of the Sakhalin oil and gas resources.
