Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, December 14, 2015 – Sakhalin-1 De-Kastri Oil Export Terminal won the Best Medium Capacity Terminal Award at the 10th International Congress Oil Terminal 2015 on December 26-27 that took place in St. Petersburg.
This award is given to a terminal showing the best economic, environmental and social performance.
“This is the third time the Terminal receives such high recognition from the International Congress Oil Terminal,” says Terminal Superintendent Anatoly Velitchko who received the award. “We are proud of our highly professional team thanks to which our terminal has yet again demonstrated its leadership in environment protection, financial efficiency and social commitment.”
De-Kastri Terminal is located near the settlement of the same name in Ulchski District of Khabarovsk Krai. This is the most remote facility of Sakhalin-1 project infrastructure: to reach the loading tanks oil travels about 230 km from Chayvo OPF on Sakhalin. Oil is loaded via the world’s largest Single Point Mooring weighing around 3200 tons located in Chikhachev Bay. The Terminal came online in 2006 and since then has offloaded over 75 million tons of oil without a single drop of oil spilled on water. Sakhalin-1 Project operator Exxon Neftegas Limited is the only company in Russia to successfully implement regular year-round oil transportation without a winter break using special 100K-ton tankers with the reinforced double hull. In winter when the Tatar Strait is covered with ice the tankers travel with ice-breakers escort.
There are about 400 people working at De-Kastri Terminal and over 95% of them are Russian nationals, including managers. Many of them are local residents, and therefore regular volunteer events, such as raising funds to buy gifts for kids from the orphanage, repairing and painting playgrounds or helping a local school, have become a part of the Terminal life. Exxon Neftegas Limited also carries out a number of charitable projects supporting educational establishments, preserving and developing culture and traditions of Indigenous Minority Peoples, sports events etc.
The International Congress on Crude Oil, LPG and Petroleum Products Trading and Transportation – Oil Terminal 2015 awards Russian and international oil and gas terminals once every three years. At the 4th Annual Best Oil Terminals and Tank Farms in Russia, CIS and Baltic Countries held on November 26 and 27, 2015 industry experts and Congress members have selected 22 terminals for the final shortlist. De-Kastri Terminal has previously won the award in various categories back in 2009 and 2012.
