Sakhalin-1 Project Breaks Own Record for Drilling World`s Longest Extended-Reach Well
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, August 27, 2012 -- The Sakhalin-1 Consortium, operated by Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL), a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, announced today that it has successfully drilled the world’s longest extended-reach well at the Chayvo field, offshore Russian Far East.
The Z-44 well reached a measured depth of 12,376 meters – the equivalent of 23 Ostankino Towers (the tallest freestanding structure in Moscow) -using ExxonMobil’s fast-drill technology.
“We are proud of this achievement which continues the ongoing success of this remarkable project,” said James Taylor, ENL president. “Six of the top ten record-breaking wells, including the Z-44, have been drilled in Russia for the Sakhalin-1 Project using ExxonMobil drilling technologies. Importantly, we reached this significant milestone demonstrating outstanding safety and environmental performance.”
